Vintage MOTOR SPORTS Watch – 1970’s TIMEX RALLY Wristwatch – Manual Wind – GOOD USED CONDITION. I’m no watch expert, this description is therefore based solely on the watch in front of me and not based on any knowledge whatsoever. I recently bought the watch for my own use but have now decided to sell. I have found it difficult to wind due the relatively small crown. I hasten to add that the crown is not faulty, it’s a little smooth from 50 years of use but that’s it. Had I decided to keep the watch I would have had a larger replacement crown fitted, as I don’t have the required skills and/or knowledge I’ve decided to sell. TIMEX RALLY The Timex Rally has long been associated with motor sport. Timex began its motor sport inspired range of rally watches in the rally sport arena and remained active for many years. They later connected with Formula 1 racing through their sponsorship of Emerson Fittipaldi who went on to win the F1 Championship for John Player Special Lotus Team in 1972. He later moved to Marlboro McLaren and won it once again in 1974. To celebrate this success Timex introduced the Emerson Fittipaldi Timex Rally which have since become extremely collectible. Allas whilst this is not the Fittipaldi edition the Timex Rally remain sought after and very collectible today. CONDITION The watch displays classic 1970s styling. The chequered flag rally dial is in excellent condition for its age. There are some very small marks that are only visible on close inspection, please check the photos. The watch winds with no issues and the time adjustment via the crown works exactly as it should (taking into account my previous comments). The case is generally in good condition but has some small surface marks and wear from age and use, but having said that it’s in good used condition . The Stainless Steel caseback appears to be very good. The watch comes with a replacement two part strap that provides that period appeal and looks just great on the watch. The watch face states it to be “Water Resistant”, however I strongly recommend that it is NOT used in water at any depth, vintage watches and water do not mix well. The watch works exactly as it should and wears very nicely on the wrist. SUMMARY The watch is period and considering its age looks very nice indeed. The strap is a new replacement. 100% accurate time keeping can-not be guaranteed due to age and use. This is a period mechanical time piece and will not be as accurate as modern day electronic devices. The watch is approximately 50 years old and has some usage wear. Please take a good CLOSE look at the photos as they form part of the description. Condition is used. Despatch via Royal Mail special delivery so as to ensure sufficient insurance. Whilst I try my very best to highlight all negative aspects of an item it remains possible that some small aspect may have been missed. Please remember that unless I list something as MINT CONDITION it will be a used and/or antique item which may have the marks commensurate with age and use…..for example: the odd mark here and there, slight fading etc.
