Derby Posies Pate/Butter Set Dimensions are approximately: Length dish: 12cms (4 3/4″ ins) x width: 6.5cms (2 5/8″ ins) Length knife: 11.5cms (4 1/2″ ins) This vintage pate set was produced by prestigious English china company Royal Crown Derby. The set is decorated with the charming Derby Posies floral pattern with posies of colourful wild flowers. The dish has a crescent shape and is further enhanced with a ‘rope’ twist edge and is embellished with gold trims. The knife blade has a scimitar shape and porcelain ‘pistol’ shape handle also decorated with the Posy pattern. In the early Victorian era the butter knife shape was similar to a fish knife, unlike the more familiar ‘round’ edge butter knife. Each set is packaged in the original green & gold box which is decorated with the floral pattern on the lid. An elegant addition to the table… Royal Crown Derby has created numerous variations of the popular ‘Posy’ pattern since the early 1900’s and is manufactured at the Osmaston Road Factory which dates from 1877 to the present day… Lovely vintage tableware set… made of exceptional quality English china and should last many years yet, with care. As the years pass, these lovely china items become more precious… pieces are damaged, lost or collections are broken up. The good news for collectors is that quality pieces should not only hold their value but increase over time. Price is for one set only… Please check available quantity before purchase… First in gets the best! Condition: The first set is in very good vintage condition commensurate for age and use. No chips, crazing, fractures or discolouration. The second set is in fairly good condition for age and wear, has some tarnishing to the knife edge (see enlarged photo) and minor crazing to the dish underside. No chips or fractures. Pattern, trims and colour all excellent on both sets.
