About Headlamp A headlamp is a lamp attached to the front of a vehicle to illuminate the road ahead. Headlamps are also often called headlights, but in the most precise usage, headlamp is the term for the device itself and headlight is the term for the beam of light produced and distributed by the device. Headlamp performance has steadily improved throughout the automobile age, spurred by the great disparity between daytime and nighttime traffic fatalities: the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that nearly half of all traffic-related fatalities occur in the dark, despite only 25% of traffic travelling during darkness. So check your headlights and maintain them every time you drive. Step 2 Release each of eight fasteners from the top of the grille by wedging the tip of a flat-head screwdriver between the tab and the grille and prying upward. Step 3 Pull the grille away from the firewall to reveal the top of the headlight assembly. Step 4 Remove the bolts from the top of the headlight assembly. Step 5 Lift the headlight assembly out of its cavity. Do not pull it completely away from the car, as it is still attached by the wiring harnesses. Remove the wiring harnesses for the headlight and the turn signal lights. Step 6 Twist the headlight ring cover off the headlight assembly to reveal the bulb. Pull the bulb out of the ring and insert the new bulb. Step 7 Reattach the ring cover to the assembly and seat the assembly back in the headlight cavity. Mount and tighten the three bolts and reattach the grille with the eight fastene. Adjust Before you begin to adjust the light, make sure check the alignment of your lights first. Park the vehicle about 10 to 25 feet from the wall with the lights aimed at the wall. The centerlines of the headlights should not be any higher than 3.5 feet above the ground.Step1 Find the adjustment screwsStep2 Adjust the headlights individually. The headlights should be adjusted one at a time.Step3 Adjustthe vertical fieldThe screw on the top of the light housing should be turned clockwise to raise the lights and counterclockwise will lower the light.Step4 Adjust the horizontal field.
