Do you need a custom model, we do custom model design About Lafitte Blacksmith Shop and Bar Lafitte Blacksmith Shop is a historic structure at the corner of Bourbon Street and St. Philip Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. Built between 1722 and 1732 by Nicolas Touze, is reputed tobe the oldest structure used as a bar in the United States. In 1722, further building is recorded by a realty transfer set down by one Don Andres Almonester. The structure and fence are in the old French Provincial Louis XV or Briquette-Entre-Poteauxe style used in French Louisiana. The building escaped two great fires at the turn of the 19th Century, due to slate roofing. Such slates are presently used by artists as canvases. Between 1772 and 1791, the property is believed to have been used by the Lafitte Brothers, Jean and Pierreas a New Orleans base for their Barataria smuggling operation. Like most New Orleans legends, Lafitte Blacksmith Shop is a gumbo of truth and French, Spanish, African, Cajun and American embellishments. Though Jean Lafitte was a known pirate and privateer, he was also a hero of the Battle of New Orleans, the last major conflict during the War of 1812, when American forces defeated the British Army in their attempt to seize New Orleans and the Louisiana Purchase from the U.S. Though local authorities squashed his privateering camp, Lafitte was pardoned in exchange for assisting the Americans during the battle. Although the colorful history of Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop(which may or may not have actuy housed a blacksmith business during its early days) might be more legend than reality, the bar rey is one of the oldest buildings in New Orleans—one of the only surviving examples of a Creole cottage in the French Quarter—and it looks it. Brick masonry is exposed, floorboards creak, and windows shutters are askew. And, of course, the building is supposedly haunted by residents of the French Quarter who died in the fires of 1788 and 1794.
